The third -biggest electricity producer in the canton

The first incineration plant in Cheveniers was opened in 1966. The current plant, which dates back to 1993, treats and recycles urban, agricultural, industrial and special waste according to the principles of sustainable development.

Every year, the plant treats around 250,000 tons of waste. A third is waste from Geneva: 80,000 tons arrive by river boats on the Rhône every year. This mode of transport replaces 50 – 70 trucks by day.

The Cheneviers plant produces electric energy and district heating, which is operated by CADIOM, a company that is 51% owned by SIG.

It’s the largest company in Switzerland and the third biggest electricity producer in the canton.

Treatment of waste material is essential to protect the environment. The Cheveniers plant is certified by the TÜV for its quality (ISO 9001), environmental practice (ISO 14001) and health and security measures (OHSAS 18001).
